Jennifer Gaskin
Founder | Director | Practitioner
My path here wasn't a straight line. I’ve worked, studied, volunteered, and cared for a family, often all at once. That's taught me that flexibility isn't a nice-to-have, it's essential. I've seen first-hand how much of a difference it makes in genuinely enabling access to services and life.
Life and professional experience have taught me the importance of meeting people where they are, and recognising that everyone deserves access to high‑quality support, no matter their circumstances or postcode.
My training and qualifications have shaped my approach across every service I offer, giving me a deep understanding of people, behaviour, and the strategies that genuinely improve quality of life.
Having worked across the field of criminal justice, the community, and within the disability sector, particularly in regional areas, I have learnt how individual and unique each person is, and the value of personalised support.
These experiences are what drove me to start somaterra. My approach is simple: quality support designed to meet you where you are.

I’ve worked directly within custodial centres across NSW and QLD, as well as community corrections, the police, courts, and forensic mental health.
Alongside frontline practice, I bring knowledge of criminological theory and justice frameworks that help make sense of behaviour within complex systems.
My work includes specialised assessment and formulation for people with cognitive impairment, psychosocial disability, dual diagnosis presentations, and offending‑related behaviours. This involves functional behaviour assessment, offence‑related formulation, and developing practical strategies that support safety, stability, and a good life.
I am also a member of the Australasian Association of Forensic Disability, a professional body committed to ethical, evidence‑based practice with people in forensic contexts.
