Behaviour Support

What is behaviour support?

Behaviour support is about understanding why a behaviour is happening, not just managing it. Every behaviour serves a purpose, whether that's communicating an unmet need, responding to distress, or navigating an environment that isn't working for the person in it. Behaviour support looks at the whole picture, the person, their environment, their history and their goals, to build practical, evidence-based strategies that genuinely improve quality of life, rather than simply trying to stop a behaviour from happening.

Who can access behaviour support?

NDIS participants, and people funding support privately, along with their families, carers, and support teams. Whether or not you're an NDIS participant, if behaviour support would genuinely help, get in touch, we'll talk through what's the right fit.

What's included?

  • Functional behaviour assessments

  • Behaviour support plans (interim and comprehensive)

  • Practical, collaborative strategies for families, carers and support teams

  • Ongoing review and adjustment as circumstances change

  • Regulated restrictive practice reporting and management, where relevant

  • Collaboration with allied health, coordinators, and other supports already involved

How is it delivered?

For NDIS-funded behaviour support, services are delivered under a contracting arrangement with a registered NDIS provider, who provide governance and clinical guidance for our behaviour support work. This gives you the personal attention of a small practice, backed by the oversight of an established provider.

Depending on your plan and circumstances, you may deal directly with somaterra day-to-day, or the registered provider may be more involved. We'll explain exactly how this works for your situation before anything starts.

For clients funding support privately, somaterra delivers behaviour support directly, with the same clinical standards and person-centred approach.

Behaviour supports are delivered in-person (we travel to you), online or a mix of both - whatever suits you.

What’s somaterra’s approach?

Person-centred and evidence-based, with a strong focus on building quality of life, and genuinely sustainable strategies.

NDIS Positive Behaviour Support

Once the service agreement is in place, the day-to-day work, such as appointments, assessments, behaviour support plans, training and implementation, is mostly one-on-one with your practitioner.
